The Power bd amplifiers utilize a new class of operation called "Class BD". It has the advantages of "Class D" (a highly-praised super-efficient amplifier design), without the inherent sound-quality disadvantages. Our proprietary technology to add conventional "Class B" clarity and sound quality to the efficient "Class D" circuit (called STARDUST, an acronym for Single Terminal Alternating-Rail Dual-Sampling Topology), is patent-pending.
What's special about the Power bd amplifiers is their power supply being highly efficient at all power levels. We designed this amp to be more than 75% efficient, which makes it a great amplifier for SPL and for the typical Rockford Fosgate fanatic who just wants great bass! Since most "Class A/B" amplifiers are between 20% to 60% efficient, the Power bd amplifiers are clearly superior for making the most power with the available power input!
Since this amplifier is a mono-block amplifier, it is designed for highest output into 2-ohm loads between the range of 20Hz to 250Hz. Designed as a bass-only amplifier, you can "BD-SYNC" two Power bd amplifiers to a 4-ohm load for twice the power output.
